Secrets of Personal Training #2

My last post revealed the need for a qualified personal trainer to help you get where you want to get in your physical goals.

This one will be a little different. As you may recall, I promised to reveal some secrets that most trainers donít want their clients to know. Today will be the first of those. I want to apologize to any trainers who lose clients because of thisÖ

I have a friend, weíll call him ìGoshî, who decided that he wanted to get himself into shape after spending the majority of his life not being very concerned with fitness. Gosh joined our workout group that met every Tuesday and Thursday morning for a generic and basic workout. After about a month, he decided to start jogging on a few of the other days of the week and pay a little closer attention to his nutrition. Six months later, with little-to-no specific attention from me, he is dramatically more fit and probably 30 pounds lighter. I joke with him that he has caught the ìfitness bugî. He loves it, and is doing great. He even fit exercise into his vacation to the beach!

Tip #2: More than half of my job is motivation. If you have that, you may not need me.

The Bible says ìWhere your treasure is, there your heart will be as well.î I suppose that people will invest cash into something hoping that their hearts will follow, and this is often the case, but sometimes thatís not necessary. Taking into account the reality from my previous post, that you probably donít know what youíre doing, and the reality that there is good and useful information out there, if a person is sufficiently self-motivated and well informed, they will do fine on their own.

Caveat: Everybody (100% of people) is highly motivated to get started when they decide that they want to achieve a health and fitness goal, as referenced by New Yearís resolutions that result in booming gym growth during the first week of January every year. BUT that is not what I am referring to when I say that a person is sufficiently self-motivated. I am talking about what happens after a month of work with no real noticeable results. True motivation endures.

So, if youíre a highly driven, well-informed individual, then youíll have no problem getting where you want to go, even without my help.
