Project Teamwork 2017
The first leg of the annual CrossFit Games is right around the corner. Each year more and more people sign up to compete in the worldwide Open. Most of us know that there’s no way that we’ll advance beyond the Open, yet we sign up anyway. We’re CrossFitters, after all. If we were runners, we’d sign up for 5k’s and 10k’s.
We have a special tradition here at CrossFit Regeneration when we do the Open. It’s called Project Teamwork, and it’s an absolute blast! Hopefully, I’ll be able to communicate with some degree of clarity how it works and why you should do it. Hold on tight, this will be a little long…
First of all, to play, you have to be signed up for the Open. So, if you haven’t done that yet click HERE. There’s a spot on the right side of the screen to register. Make sure you are part of CrossFit Regeneration.
You’ll also need to register specifically with us. You can follow this link HERE.
You will end up on one of 5 teams, each of which will be lead by a couple team captains chosen from among your ranks. Everyone who has registered in the Open, both on the games site and with us, on or before Thursday, February 9th will be included in our “Draft” that will be happening that night. So make sure you get registered! You’ll hear from your captains that night.
So starting 2/9, you’ll be able to start earning points for your team. (There are a lot of ways to get points!) I’ll detail that out below. The winning team not only earns bragging rights in the gym, but also will be featured as our Facebook page cover photo and on our website, in addition to some other yet to be determined “Perks” of winning.
Like I said, there are many ways to earn points for your team and only a handful are related to your actual performance in the workouts.
Recruiting week (2/9-2/16)
Everyone already signed up before 2/9 will be drafted to a team and will earn *2 points for their team for every person they convince to sign up for their team. There is the potential for a TON of points here! Note, that person must reference who referred them in order for the points to be assigned. So, make sure that your friend lets me know via emailing mandi<at>crossfitregeneration<dot>com. Peer pressure is your friend here!
Hype week (2/17-2/22)
This is where the teams take on their own individual identity. You’ll come up with a team name, create a team slogan, begin taking pictures or videos for Facebook and Instagram using hashtag #ProjectTW2017.
Throughout the Open, you’ll be able to earn points for your teams in the following ways.
Each week, we’ll use the Games leaderboard to determine the top athletes from both the RX and Scaled division.
* 1st place earns 6 points
* 2nd place earns 5 points
* 3rd place earns 4 point
* 4th-6th place all earn 3 points
* 7th-10th place all earn 2 points
* 11th-15th place all earn 1 point
Each Thursday at 8:00pm, starting 2/23, will be the time when everyone finds out what the workout will be. It’s a super exciting time, and we want to make it more fun for everyone. We’ll find out what the workout is, watch some famous CrossFitters do the workout immediately after the announcement, and then we’ll have our own showdown here as pre-selected and voluntary members from our gym will do the workout. This will be a party and we want it to feel like a party, so you can earn (1) point for your team by showing up to the reveal representing your team colors!
Using Facebook and Instagram is your friend here. Content must be related to the CrossFit Open experience as a member at CrossFit Regeneration in order to earn points. You can earn you team an extra point each week by checking in at CrossFit Regeneration with a pic or video!
Make sure you use the hashtag #ProjectTW2017 with your post!
Friday night Lights! Throughout the Open, Fridays will be a party! From 5:30 pm on, we’ll replace our regular classes with heats of the Open workouts. We’ll go as late as necessary. You will receive 2 points for your team by completing the workout and submitting a score to the CrossFit Games site. No points will be awarded for completing the workout unless it’s submitted to the games site.
Ways to get the workout in:
- Thursday nights (2 athletes going head to head)
- Friday night lights! Weekly from 5:30 pm until we’re finished
- Saturday mornings starting at 9:00am and going until noon
- Last chance Mondays. You must complete the workout between 2:00-4:00pm and provide your own judge.
If you cannot come during the provided times, we will be happy to offer a personal training discount for you at a rate of $35 to complete the workout with a coach. Otherwise, you’ll be out of luck.
At the end of the Open, we’ll take the top 8 Men and Women from the RX division and host our own in house competition called “Regionals Lite”. So, do your best!
This is by far one of the most fun and exciting things we do as a community each year. The Open is for all of us. Consider it the cheapest, and most fun Throwdown you’ll do all year. So, don’t forget.
