Great Changes are Here -- THE BLACKBEAR COMPETITION LEAGUE

At Regeneration we have loved the attendance rates of our Thursday night competition style class: Blackbear Competition League. Because of its popularity, we’ve brainstormed, mulled over and discussed the best ways to keep the spirit of Blackbear alive, while toning down consistent intensity.

Consistent Intensity here.

The concerns we most heavily discussed were based in the realm of reality. We are a CrossFit gym, and we love competition! We also respect our athletes and the reality that weekly competition, as fun as it sounds, is not a sustainable option for those looking to maintain a not-all-of-the-time-competition lifestyle.

As our program has evolved and grown, we have recognized the need for a more comprehensive and challenging experience that culminates in a competitive event. The decision to transition from a weekly class to a bi-annual competition event was made after careful consideration and with several important factors in mind.

Our deepest concerns came down to risk of over-training, lack of recovery time and class variables such as additionally reduced recovery time (based on our open class structure). There are also external variables such as the individual ability to maintain consistent and proper form, as well as individual hydration and personal nutrition playing a role.

As a coach, preparing our athletes for competition isn’t a simple task. It takes a team to prepare one mind, one heart, one body for the heat of competition. Rather than ask our members to give up their personal dreams and become full-time professional athletes (although that does sound like a lot of fun) we’d rather challenge our members to compete against themselves and their peers with intent, a plan, and focus on occasion, rather than all of the time.

WHAT WILL THE BLACKBEAR COMPETITION LEAGUE LOOK LIKE NOW?

The weekly Thursday Blackbear League class will discontinue, with a final class date of 10/26/2023 at 5:30 PM

Thursdays 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM will remain as Open Gym time.

HOW TO UTILIZE OPEN GYM TIME

Thursdays 4:30 - 6:30 PM & Saturdays 10:30 - 11:30 AM

  • Utilize this time to work through the Competition Prep Homework. Ask your coach questions. Get to know the material and be comfortable with the movements.
  • Make-up work. Missed a workout this week? Didn’t get to hit a set? Keep up with the intended stimulus of the programming by catching missed workouts during Open Gym.
  • Stretch. Utilize the equipment or the space to get your stretch on. After a long week your body needs some elongation.
